01. Who Am I
My name is Jason Mathews, I was born in Michigan. I spent a few semesters at College for Creatives Studies in Detroit studying Graphic Design. Until I met my wife and moved to Arizona and attended Collins College and earned my Bachelors in Game Art.
After my schooling I worked at Southwest Portraits doing digital retouching and web design. Later I moved on to Glynlyon where I worked on a wide variety of education media (video editing, flash media, audio recording, and more). I spend much of my free time trying to break into the game industry.
02. Game Industry
I finally broke into the game industry by joining a group working on a indie project, Son of Nor. Spending nights and weekends creating props and VFXs for this up and coming game. It was all I hoped for just not paying.
We eventually launched a Kickstarter campaign for Son of Nor and we finally had money. 3 years later left my job at Glynlyon and began working full time for the Stillalive Studios.
After releasing Son of Nor we got a contract to work on Bus Simulator. Bus Simulators became our primary game for the next 10+ years releasing five games in the genre. They were a great form of learning.
We also worked on Drone Swarm, Garden Life, Rescue HQ and Grand Casino Tycoon. Over those 12 years I learned a lot about Unity 3D, Unreal 4 & 5, as well as some external programs such as Houdini, PopcornFX, and Blender. I am glad to be in the game industry and know it is where my passion lies.
03. Hobbies
Outside of work I love to craft things. These could be woodworking, leatherworking, foam smithing, 3D printing and more. I believe my love for game design comes from my enjoyment of crafting. Seeing people enjoy the games or objects I make bring me great joy!
I also enjoy Archery and LARP (Live Action Role Play).
I also have a 4 year old which has become it’s own hobby, but seeing her learn and try new things is one of the greatest things to ever have.
